Five ski hotels ‘off the beaten track’
![]()
Bentley’s House, Zurs
Avoid bothersome queues and enjoy some well earned tranquillity in these hideaway havens.
Bentley’s House, Zurs
In Arlberg the saying goes, ‘take your family to Lech, take the boys to St Anton and take your lover to Zurs’. Avoid the kids, the boys and the crowds in this resort; plentiful in powder and five star accommodation.
Le Crans Hotel, Crans-Montana
Crans-Montana has never been a big attraction for the English market despite having all the attributes of a superb winter resort. The Hotel Le Crans is perched on a picturesque hillside. Here you can enjoy close proximity to the slopes, minimal queues and not an English voice in miles.
The Grand Hotel Park, Gstaad
Surrounded by acres of parkland, the Grand Hotel Park is an exclusive retreat enjoyed mainly by the French and the Swiss. The hotel’s location is so secluded we have not yet managed to get our hands on images of it post-renovation. Watch this space.
The Riffelalp Hotel, Zermatt
The only access to the Riffelalp Hotel is via the Gornergrat cog railway that runs from resort level of Zermatt. No need to walk in ski boots or queue for first lifts here as the entire hotel is ski in, ski out.
Les Granges d’en Haut, Chamonix, Les Houches
Enjoy time with the family, watching the kids learn to ski on the pretty, traffic-free slopes of Les Houches. You wouldn’t believe this alpine hidey-hole is just an hour from the hussle and bussle of Geneva.

It really is a special place! The hotel is undergoing renovations this summer so expect it to get even better.
