“Not Exactly Roughing It” at Beaver Creek, Colorado

Park Hyatt, Beaver Creek

As Beaver Creek‘s clever marketing slogan “not exactly roughing it” may suggest, luxury is not hard to find here. A few of us took a trip out in March this year, and found a pretty resort full of North American charm, beautifully appointed hotels such as the Park Hyatt above, quiet slopes in comparison to some of the larger European resorts, and amazing snow.

We were most impressed, as we discovered throughout Colorado, at the fantastic snow conditions. Beaver Creek receives, on average, an annual snowfall of over 7 and a half metres. The resort closed on the 17th April 2011 with a massive 210cm snow base…it had to close on this date not due to lack of snow, but to allow for the annual Elk migration.

Skiing Beaver Creek is suitable for all abilities, so perfect if you have a mixed group. Your lift pass will also cover you for skiing Vail and Breckenridge, so you really are spoilt for choice in terms of ski terrain. If you are looking for luxury in a resort with an excellent snow record, then Beaver Creek is definitely worthy in our opinion, as is any other resort on our North American portfolio.

Aspen Mountain to open for summer skiing

The Little Nell, Aspen

Due to the considerable amount of snowfall Aspen Mountain received this season, Aspen Skiing Company has announced they will be opening the mountain for weekend skiing throughout the summer season when conditions permit.

The mountain was due to close this weekend but the locals are hopeful that the Silver Queen Gondola will continue to run given that cool temperatures and good spring snowfall have preserved the 71 inch base layer of snow at the top of Aspen Mountain.

Introducing One Ski Hill Place, Breckenridge, Colorado

One Ski Hill Place, Breckenridge

As you may already know, we are expanding our North America portfolio to include Breckenridge, Beaver Creek and Vail along with Aspen, and have included many exciting luxury properties such as One Ski Hill Place in Breckenridge, shown above. One Ski Hill Place really is a fantastic property ideal for families, or those venturing over to North America for the first time. It is ideally located at the base of the slopes and the ski school meeting point, the hotel itself has a whole array of facilities to keep you entertained such as a large indoor pool, movie room, and even its own bowling alley!

With all this entertainment you do not really need to leave the hotel, however just a short ride away you find Breckenridge Main Street. Here you will find a typical American, almost ‘Wild West’ ski town, with an abundance of shops and fine eating establishments to cater all tastes. We believe Breckenridge to be a great resort with plenty on offer, not forgetting its impressive snow record, a massive 7.5 metres a season on average!

To find out more about One Ski Hill Place, or indeed all our North American properties, please call the Oxford Ski Company on: +44 1865 398 130.
