Looking to push yourself this ski season?

The Warren Smith Ski Academy in Verbier has introduced classes designed for those advanced skiers ready to push themselves to the next level, with an emphasis on off piste skiing including couloirs, steeps, zip line moguls and tree skiing.
The concept was borne out of a growing number of requests from clients happy to pay that little extra, for the benefit of smaller group sizes and higher standards.
There are four Supergroup weeks in Verbier available this season suitable for Level 4, 5 and 6 skiers with costs ranging from £495 for 4 people to £740 for 6 people:
11-18 December
1-8 January
26 February – 5 March
12-19 March

Looking for property in Verbier?  Why not try Sagittaire – ultimate luxury in this world-famous resort.

The Freeze Festival 2010

Relentless Freeze is a snow sports and music festival in London, nestled in the shadow of Battersea Power Station. Every year since it began in 2008 Freeze has welcomed the world’s very best skiers and snowboarders to compete on the specially erected 32m high, 100m long real snow ramp.

The riders throw themselves off the huge jump performing their best tricks for World ranking points, their share of the prize purse, and your viewing pleasure. Over the last two years we have seen Olympic medallists Danny Kass, Peetu Piiroinen, Scotty Lago battle it out. From the skiers Jon Olson, Tanner Hall, Russ Henshaw, Andreas Hatveit and Bobby Brown produced an intense and one of the highest scoring big air contests ever!

The event takes place over three days in late October and boasts a stellar music line up. The last two years have seen huge international acts like Cypress Hill, Orbital, Friendly Fires and Chase & Status perform phenomenal shows in the festival marquee and expect more exciting acts this year. There is also a big retail village for you to explore, loads of specially decked out après ski bars, a cinema, food stalls and loads more stuff to check out.

Relentless Freeze Festival isn’t just about the biggest bands, artists and DJ’s performing and the world’s greatest skiers and snowboarders competing. There is a retail village that could top any big ski resort town, where you’ll be able to check out the latest ski and snowboard gear. Some of the country’s best retailers will be there ready to help and explain this winter’s latest hardware tech and what’s right for you.

This is one of the main features of the event and will be host to the biggest and latest brands, retailers, snow and ski resorts, and tour operators who will be showcasing their latest lines and hot deals on the snow to the Freeze customer only.

New ski buddy site launches

Going skiing or boarding on your own – but would prefer to find new companions? And avoid the ‘ouch’ of single supplement costs? A new website, Ski Pals, offers a way forward.

Ski Pals is aimed at putting solo skiers and boarders in touch with one another, through an online notice board – a social network for winter sports’ fans. The idea is to help you spread the cost of a holiday and to find new friends who enjoy winter sports as much as you do. It can be anything from sharing a taxi transfer to finding someone of the same level to ski with. In reverse, you can also advertise available accommodation for a small fee.

Users sign up, then can view the latest posts and request further details from any that interest. Membership is free, and only members can view another user’s profile. So, if your non-skiing spouse or partner really does not want to be dragged off to the snow for a week or two, this may be an alternative to a winter holiday alone.
