The Freeze Festival 2010

Relentless Freeze is a snow sports and music festival in London, nestled in the shadow of Battersea Power Station. Every year since it began in 2008 Freeze has welcomed the world’s very best skiers and snowboarders to compete on the specially erected 32m high, 100m long real snow ramp.

The riders throw themselves off the huge jump performing their best tricks for World ranking points, their share of the prize purse, and your viewing pleasure. Over the last two years we have seen Olympic medallists Danny Kass, Peetu Piiroinen, Scotty Lago battle it out. From the skiers Jon Olson, Tanner Hall, Russ Henshaw, Andreas Hatveit and Bobby Brown produced an intense and one of the highest scoring big air contests ever!

The event takes place over three days in late October and boasts a stellar music line up. The last two years have seen huge international acts like Cypress Hill, Orbital, Friendly Fires and Chase & Status perform phenomenal shows in the festival marquee and expect more exciting acts this year. There is also a big retail village for you to explore, loads of specially decked out après ski bars, a cinema, food stalls and loads more stuff to check out.

Relentless Freeze Festival isn’t just about the biggest bands, artists and DJ’s performing and the world’s greatest skiers and snowboarders competing. There is a retail village that could top any big ski resort town, where you’ll be able to check out the latest ski and snowboard gear. Some of the country’s best retailers will be there ready to help and explain this winter’s latest hardware tech and what’s right for you.

This is one of the main features of the event and will be host to the biggest and latest brands, retailers, snow and ski resorts, and tour operators who will be showcasing their latest lines and hot deals on the snow to the Freeze customer only.

Introducing the Hotel Post, Zermatt

The Hotel Post, Zermatt

Those looking for a luxury, contemporary hotel will find no end of choice in Zermatt. One that particular impressed us last time we visited was the Hotel Post.

Its central location on the resort’s main street makes in a great base to explore the atmospheric centre of this smart, winter resort.

The Hotel Post is part of a complex that contains several restaurants to suit all tastes. The hotel also has its own lounge bar and night-club where you can indulge in some sophisticated après-ski.

If you want to take things easy after a long day on the slopes, head for the hotel’s spa. You’ll have the sauna, steam baths, Jacuzzi and treatment rooms to choose from.

Double rooms at this four star superior hotel start from 350CHF per room, per night, including breakfast.

For your own suite with private roof top terrace and balcony, living room, dining area and bathroom with Jacuzzi bath and wellness shower, treat yourself to a stay in the Matterhorn Suite. Prices start from 1,190CHF  per room, per night, including breakfast.

The hotel is also open for summer holidays. For more details on this superb hotel, please call The Oxford Ski Company on  +(44) 01865 398133.

Skiing in a Winter Wonderland

litupoutside

Once upon a time there was a beautiful hotel that stood nestled away from the rest of the world in the Jardin Alpin of Courchevel 1850. A hotel that I had often marvelled from the Alpin Jardin lift which goes over head. But last week I got the chance to step inside this Winter Wonderland on our recent familiarisation trip to the Alps.

The Hotel Les Airelles is adorned inside and out with hand-painted, Alpine motifs and makes for a spectacular in itself. Not to mention the carousel, out-door ice rink, ice-grotto, bumper-sized games-room and the team of attentive and cheery staff who are all dressed in traditional, Savoyard costume.  At night the wood around this ski-in, ski-out, Winter palace is illuminated with tiny fairy lights. You might even be able to spot the odd magical animal if you look carefully enough!

But the Hotel Les Airelles is definitely not just for children. With a Valmont spa, boutique by Valentino, gastronomic restaurant by Pierre Gagnaire and a designer ski boutique, this hotel is the dream world of many an adult too!

For any questions about the Hotel Les Airelles or any other family friendly hotels, please call the Oxford Ski Company on + 44 (0) 1865 398130 and ask for a hotel specialist.
