The Hotel le Strato is this year’s addition to Courchevel 1850′s impressive catalogue of five star hotels. Only 41 hotels have been awarded this prestigious status throughout France so to have a constellation of seven based in one village goes some way to proving why there is so much hysteria about Courchevel 1850.
With such stellar neighbours as Le Cheval Blanc, Les Airelles, Le Kilimandjaro, Le Lana and Le Mélezin, Hotel le Strato has its work cut out to outshine the competition. We were lucky enough to have a sneak preview of the hotel on our recent familiarisation trip to the Alps and the hotel looks set to rival the best. The traditional chalet exterior of the hotel gives little away as to the cutting-edge facilities and contemporary décor that is hidden within. Once inside you could easily mistake your whereabouts for a sophisticated, Parisian night-club minus the music. You would expect no less of the young, design duo, Pierre Dubois and Aimé Cécil. Their juxtaposition of modern and classic art references make for an innovative take on Alpine comfort.
The Hotel le Strato is made up of only 25 rooms and suites but has exceptional facilities, including an in-door pool, spa, hammam, sauna, jacuzzi, gastronomic restaurant, lounge bar and ski-in, ski-out sun terrace. Jean-André Charial de l’Oustau de Baumanière, who currently enjoys two Michelin stars has lent his signature Provençal flair to the hotel’s kitchen.
